Now let's get down to the task of Entering Time
There are three different methods for entering time into COLTS II; ask your supervisor which method of time-entry you will use. Let's look at three examples to illustrate the different methods. As you continue with this Guided Tour, you will see the steps and screen shots that apply to the method you will be using. Here are our three sample Cornell employees:
Inga Outfield
works in the Kroch library among the rare books. She is a part-time employee and is required to keep track of her clock hours. She will fill out an electronic timecard very much like she's used a paper timecard in the past, showing the exact time she starts and stops work each day, including when she goes to lunch and returns. So, Inga Outfield uses the
In/Out time panels
in COLTS II.
Stan Schelman
works in the Admissions Office for one of the colleges. He works when the office is open, which means his hours are pretty much the same every week. (Sometimes he has to stay home with a sick child or takes some vacation time.) Stan uses a
Standard (or default) Schedule
for entering time in COLTS II.
Nancy Sherwood
works in the Geology department. Because of the nature of her work, Nancy may work irregular hours from one day to the next, although each pay period she works about the same total number of hours. Nancy enters her time using the Non-standard Schedule
method in COLTS II.
Summary of Time-Entry Options:
- In/Out times required
- As an employee, you will enter up to three pairs of "In/Out" times for each day worked. The system computes your hours worked based on these entries.
- Standard Schedule
- Your default weekly schedule (number of hours normally worked each day of the week) is displayed when you start COLTS II. You only enter exceptions to your standard schedule, if any occurred.
- Non-standard Schedule
- You enter your total number of hours worked daily (not including unpaid breaks) for each day you work.
